High School Musical

High School Musical

Have you ever watched the movies? Ice Show? Theatre Plays? Own the CD’s? DVD? Toys? Clothes? Video Games?

If you have kids you most likely will say yes to a few. I can say yes to everything. My kids love HSM!

We just went to the new movie High School Musical 3 Senior Year today. It was a great movie! I love that nothing bad ever happens in any HSM movies. Kids of all ages can watch and enjoy the show. Most adults I know even like it. The music is catchy and I like it myself.

I have to say the theatre was crazy busy. We had it on 4 screens showing 16 times today. That is each showing had 4 times. They sold out every single show for Friday - Monday. We have no school here today or Monday. I wonder if the school secretly planned it that way. Lol

What I think is really crazy is I watched a group of little girls get out of a LIMO. I thought the tickets, popcorn, candy and soda were expensive. Would you ever pay for your kids to take a limo to a movie?

If your kids like HSM make sure to check out Disney’s Camp Rock with the Jonas Brothers. It is another good clean kid movie.

What movies or stars are your kids upsest with?
What do you think of High School Musical?
Did you like the 3rd movie?
Happy they moved it to the big screen and not just on TV?

Excellent Food

I love good food! Today was an excellent fast food day.

It started out with very yummy doughnuts. Next I had a Dairy Queen chicken strip basket. It was hot fresh chicken, perfect buttered toast and gravy. At my friends goodbye party we had a tasty Oreo Ice Cream Cake. My Favorite cook at home snack of the day. Kraft Triple Cheese Easy Mac with a slice of Kraft American Cheese mixed in. This was a very yummy cheesy snack. Yes I know this was a very unhealthy food day but man did it taste good.

What is your favorite fast food or fast snack?

Campout Cobbler

This weekend I am going camping with my son’s Cub Scout pack. We will have lots of fun doing crafts, archery, hiking, fishing etc… One thing the parents love is my husbands campfire cooking. He always make us great food. I thought I would share with you his most requested recipe ever. It is published in a camping cookbook.

1 1/2 boxes yellow cake mix

1 1/2 sticks of butter
1. Line dutch oven with aluminum foil (not necessary, but makes clean-up easier).
2. Empty 2-3 cans of pie filling into the bottom of thedutch oven and spread evenly.
3. Pour in 1 1/2 boxes of cake mix and spread evenly.
4. Top with brown sugar, oatmeal and butter cut intoslices.
5. Put lid on oven, put on top of 12 hot coals and putanother 8 on top of the lid.
Cook for 45 minutes.

Chocolate Cherry Cobbler
2-3 cans cherry pie filling
2 boxes chocolate cake mix
3/4 cup water
1 12 oz bag chocolate chips
1 1/2 stick of butter
1. Line dutch oven with aluminum foil (not necessary, but makes clean-up easier).
2. Empty 2-3 cans of cherry pie filling into the bottomof the dutch oven and spread evenly.
3. Pour in 2 boxes of chocolate cake mix and spreadevenly.
4. Sprinkle cake mix with water - makes the cobblermore moist
5. Top with chocolate chips and butter cut into slices.
6. Put lid on oven, put on top of 12 hot coals and putanother 8 on top of the lid.
Cook for 45 minutes.

Someone once said to me
“Houston, we have a problem!I don't own a dutch oven. (Or a tent, sleeping bag, or any other camping acoutrements!) Can those delicious-looking recipes be modified for a regular casserole dish and oven? (I hope!)”

Yes 350 for 30-45 min.'s in a casserole dish or cast iron. They taste best in a cast iron dutch oven. You can buy a cheap one at Walmart for around $20-$40. Yes you can put it in your oven at home.

Please let me know if you cook this and what you think of it.
Do you have any favorite campfire foods?

Internet Radio

The internet is great!

I love the fact that I can find radio stations from towns I use to live in. It always brings back great memories. I have been listening to a station from Portland Oregon the last few nights and love it. They are doing a contest right now to win a trip to the Oregon coast. The DJ’s spend lots of time describing the beach. That reminds me how much I miss the Pacific Coast. I think the best drive anyone can ever take is Highway 101 from Portland Oregon to San Diego California. You will see the most breath taking ocean views ever. I highly recommend everyone should do this once in their life time.

If you do take the drive make sure to stop by the Tree’s of Mystery. You will see some very cool tall trees. Every time I drive 101 I feel very peaceful.

Do you guys know of any great drives?
Do you know of a great radio station online you want to share?

Childhood

It’s lightly raining outside and I am listening to it. I love the sound of light rain. It reminds me of Northern California. When I was little my best friend Holly and I would play outside in the rain. Sometimes its nice to just remember the simple times of childhood.

What reminds you of childhood?

Traveling

Hi everyone and welcome to my new blog. This is going to be a place of fun and random things. Someday you may find a recipe, money saving tips, a craft idea, photos I took or me venting about my day. I hope you enjoy my little blog and check back each day.

Today Random Mom Rocks about Traveling

One of my goals for this school year is to travel more. I know that sounds weird but we home school and I think the best way to learn about Mt. Rushmore is to visit it. What do you think?
I started thinking today about all the states my kids have been to already.

  • My two youngest have been to …
    Arkansas
    Arizona
    California
    Colorado
    Iowa
    Kansas
    Missouri
    Nebraska
    Nevada
    New Mexico
    Oklahoma
    Oregon
    South Dakota
    Texas
    Utah
    Wyoming
  • My oldest has also been to…
    New York
    Washington DC
    Florida

I have been to 49 states. I have a goal to make it to Hawaii #50 before May 2010. I have had this goal for over 15 years now. One of my best friends said I will never make it to Hawaii in time because I am too busy. Well I have news for her. I WILL MAKE IT!! I just need to learn to save more and spend less. I will have tips on saving money in a later blog.

How many states have you been to? Do you like to travel? Do you have any travel tips?

I travel a lot by car with kids. Here are a few travel tips that work great for me.

  • Always have snacks and drinks for everyone in the car. I like to pre measure and label everything out in zip lock bags if I can.
  • I love the powered drink mixes that you just mix with a bottle of water. They are great for saving money. I carry a few in my purse and we fill up our water bottles with free water. What would have cost my family $10 for drinks now cost less than $2. A box of powered drink sticks is usually $1.50 -$2 and has 8-12 in it.
  • I like to let my kids have 1 bad of toys, 1 pillow, and 1 blanket in the car on long rides. We pack all our clothes in one big back if possible.
  • In my kids bags you can always find sunglasses, a hat, plain paper, colored pencils (crayons melt), markers, playing cards, coloring books, reading books, book light, and yes hand held games or IPods.
  • My daughter always packs dolls, mini horses, stickers, and pokemon toys.
  • My youngest son action heroes, toy animals and pokemon toys.
  • A MUST is empty Zip Lock bags. My kids collect pinecones, rocks and other fun stuff along the way. Also a clipboard or lap desk for each kid.
  • One of my favorite things to do on a long car ride is to let the kids buy trinkets and stickers at gas stations. I always try and put a couple rolls of quarters in my purse. They think it’s a great treat.
  • I also buy extra toys with kid’s meals. It cost $1-$5 extra per kid and they have new toys to play with for hours. It always keeps them busy.
  • We love playing car games like …
  • Travel bingo - you can buy pre-made boards or make up your own
  • License plate game - you try and find all 50 states before you trip is over. I know some family’s that have an on going game of this. They play anytime they are in the car. If you have kids that hate going to the store this can be a great distraction.
  • I am going on a vacation game - It goes like this 1st person I am going on a vacation and packing a book, 2nd person I am going on vacation and packing a book and flashlight, 3rd person I am going on vacation and packing a book, flashlight and t-shirt. You get the idea.
  • Car Trivia - You can buy trivia books and cards or just download trivia questions from your computer before you leave home.
  • I Spy - everyone should know how to play this but if not I Spy with my little eye something green, next everyone takes turns guessing but only gets 3 guesses before they are out, if someone guesses what it is they are it.
  • A big favorite is how many trucks can we make honk. Yes my kids keep count for the whole trip.
  • I know we play more I just can’t think of them now =)
  • I like to make trips educational too. My kids get 3x5 cards with state facts or city facts on them. They love reading each one. You can cut out and paste fun photos of interesting things.
  • A big favorite is buying postcards in each state and writing on the back what our favorite thing in that state was. Little kids can draw pictures. This is lots of fun to look back on when the trip is over or a few years from now.

Do you know of any cool places we should go see? How about any fun restaurants or foods we just have to try?

I always love learning about new places to visit.

Thanks for taking the time to read my blog.
Smile,
